Rob Granato played youth hockey in the Chicago area before he went on to play high school hockey in Minnesota where his team captured two state championships. He then played two seasons of junior hockey for the Madison Capitols of the USHL. He finished his junior career as one of the all time leading scorers in Capitol history, finishing second in career points (176) and tied for first with career assists (113). Rob played for one season at Colorado College before finishing his career at the University of Wisconsin, as his two older brothers had before him. In his senior year 1993-94, Rob captained the team. After college, Rob chose to focus on coaching rather than pursue a professional career, however, he did play two summers of professional roller hockey with the Chicago Cheetah of the RHI.
Rob was an assistant coach of the Green Bay Gamblers of the USHL in their inaugural season in 1994-95. He then coached the Downers Grove Huskies Youth Organization for the next two seasons, while directing the power skating program at the Orland Park Ice Arena. Most recently Rob was an assistant coach with the Chicago Freeze of the HAHL junior A hockey league, where he was in charge of scouting and recruiting. He was also the Head Coach of the Downers Grove Huskies Youth Organization Midget AA Gold team.
Rob currently oversees, staffs and runs the Granato Hockey Camp program as well as the
Be A Girl Athletic Corporation.
